It can be postulated without difficulty that cognitive function is directly related to brain health; likewise, that future brain health status is based both on its current condition as well as on the on-going effects of genetic and environmental factors. I will propose a mechanistic concept of brain health, operationalized via measurable proxies of major organ-level brain systems that support cognitive function, and demonstrated its applicability towards the prediction of cognitive decline in the context of aging and probable Alzheimer’s disease.
