The laboratories of Drs. Mahsa Dadar and Yashar Zeighami are looking for a highly motivated Research Assistant with interest in medical imaging (including post-mortem imaging data collection) and experience in programming (bash and MATLAB or Python). The selected candidate will actively contribute to ongoing research studies in the areas of neuroimaging, machine learning, and modelling in aging and neurodegenerative/cerebrovascular disease populations (e.g. data collection, management, processing, and quality control). 

Description of tasks: 

  • Assisting with imaging of post-mortem brain specimens from the Douglas Bell Canada Brain Bank (https://douglasbrainbank.ca/) at the Cerebral Imaging Centre (CIC)
  • MRI and clinical data organization, preprocessing, and quality control
  • Participate in weekly lab meetings
  • Assisting the Principal Investigators with administrative tasks related to the project
  • Depending on the strengths of the candidate, may provide expertise/support for other activities including grant writings, proofreading of manuscripts, etc.

Required qualifications: 

  • Experience in working with Linux systems and coding in Python or MATLAB is an asset.
  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in a relevant field (e.g. Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Neuroscience).

Required skills: 

  • Experience with programming.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

Required abilities: 

  • Superior critical thinking, project management, and organizational skills are expected
  • Analytical fluency
  • Familiarity with research practices, data science, and statistical modeling
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada 

Location of work: 

Douglas Research Centre, CIC (on-site presence required)

Work schedule: 

35 hours per week, 2-year contract starting August or September 2022, Candidates must be available for a minimum of one year full-time.

Salary: 

In accordance with Douglas salary range, depending on experience and qualifications
