About the IMPACT (Image Processing And Characterization of Tissue) lab:
Research at IMPACT is focused on developing novel medical image analysis techniques to improve healthcare. IMPACT lab is directed by Dr. H. Rivaz, an Associate Professor & Research Chair in Medical Image Analysis (CURC). He was selected as a Rising Star in biomedical imaging in 2022 by QBIN. He has been an Associate Editor of IEEE TMI since 2017, IEEE TUFFC since 2018 and IEEE OJBME since 2021. He is a member of the Organizing Committee of IEEE EMBC 2020 (Montreal, Canada), IEEE ISBI 2021 (Nice, France), and IEEE IUS 2023 (Montreal, Canada). He has served as an Area Chair (AC) of MICCAI for five years since 2017 and is an AC of IPCAI 2022. He co-organized two tutorials on advances in ultrasound imaging at IEEE ISBI 2019 and 2018. He also co-organized the Seg-CURIOUS 2022, CURIOUS 2019, and CURIOUS 2019 Challenges on registration of ultrasound and MRI in neurosurgery, and the CereVis 2018 Workshop on Cerebral Data Visualization, all in conjunction with MICCAI. IMPACT lab has an excellent track record of training outstanding graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. See links below for more information:

Dr. Mirco Ravanelli is an Assistant professor at Concordia University. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Université de Montréal and Associate Member at the Mila-Quebec AI Institute. Dr. M. Ravanelli has been nominated vice-chair of the Technical Committee of Neural Networks and Computational Intelligence of The International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR) for the period 2021-2023. His main research interests are deep learning for sequence processing, with particular emphasis on Conversational AI. He is the author or co-author of more than 50 papers on these research topics. He received his Ph.D. (with cum laude distinction) from the University of Trento in December 2017. He worked as post-doc at the Mila-Quebec AI Institute under the supervision of the Turing’s award professor Yoshua Bengio. Mirco is an active member of the speech and machine learning communities. He is the founder and leader of the SpeechBrain project. He received the IEEE CIS TETCI Outstanding Paper Award in 2021 and the IBM Best Student Paper Award at IEEE ICASSP in 2017. He was awarded the Best PhD in ICT at the University of Trento in 2018.
Montreal is a global hub for AI research. A state-of-the-art NVIDIA A100 server is dedicated solely to the members of the IMPACT lab, as well as several imaging equipment.
